Postpartum Follow up Care

Postpartum follow up care continues with our Round Rock OBGYNs after you leave the hospital

While you are still in the hospital, you will have the opportunity to read many materials about caring for you and your baby after delivery. In-room television programming and helpful instruction from the staff enhance your learning opportunities—and your confidence—before you leave the hospital. After you leave the hospital, you are not alone! Your postpartum follow up care with our Round Rock OBGYNs continues with your very important follow-up postpartum visit, which is usually four to six weeks after your delivery, or two weeks if you have a C-section.

Your postpartum follow up care checkup is an important part of your recovery

Even if you are feeling the best you have ever felt in your life—and we hope that you are—our Round Rock OBGYNs want you to know that it is absolutely imperative that you come to your follow-up checkup for postpartum care.

Several very important healthcare issues are addressed at this visit.

Sexual intercourse—You may have questions about minimizing discomfort after giving birth, or a possible lack of interest in sexual intercourse, which is not uncommon.

Postpartum depression—Talking with new mothers about possible postpartum depression is an important part of postpartum care. We know that it’s normal for new mothers to feel anxious, tired, sad and nervous for a few weeks after giving birth, but if these feelings become very overwhelming, you need to talk to our Round Rock OBGYNs about support and treatment.

Physical exam—Monitoring how you are feeling overall, as well as checking on your blood pressure and breast health, is very important. Our physicians will also follow-up to check on any conditions, such as high blood pressure or gestational diabetes, you may have developed during your pregnancy.

Pelvic exam—This is a vital part of your postpartum follow-up visit with our Round Rock OBGYNs. During this exam, we check your episiotomy if you had one, your vagina, your uterus and your cervix to ensure that everything is healing.

If you had a C-section, you will need to come in for postpartum follow-up care about two weeks after delivery so that we can check on your incision.
